On January 17, 2012, NHTSA is a press release announcing publication of two reports that provide recall statistics for 2012 and prior calendar years. One report documents the total number of vehicle, equipment, child safety seat, and tire related recalls that have been conducted in the U.S. since 1966. This report indicates that in 2012, manufacturers filed more than 650 safety recalls, affecting over 17.8 million vehicles, child seats and vehicle equipment. A second report provides a breakdown of the total number of vehicle recalled by each manufacturer in 2012.
