Emissions Certification

On June 8, 2012, EPA issued an NPRM addressing the following issues:

1. special certification provisions for emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks;
2. changes to the SCR provisions that would affect 2011MY and alter  light-duty vehicles and nonroad CI engines as well as 2012MY and later heavy-duty vehicles and engines;
3. nonroad CI engines operating in temporary emergency service.

In conjunction with the NPRM, EPA has also issued a Direct Final Rule on the subject of the special certification provisions for emergency vehicles (#1 above).  Unless EPA receives adverse comment on the Direct Final rule by July 27, 2012, the new emergency vehicle provisions will go into effect Aug. 7, 2012.
