On June 6, 2012, EPA published a Final Rule in the Federal Register listing carbon dioxide (R-744 or CO2) as an acceptable substitute, subject to use conditions, in the motor vehicle air conditioning (MVAC) end-use for motor vehicles (i.e., passenger cars, light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles).
The final rule will take effect on Aug. 6, 2012.
