California GHG Waiver

On January 24, 2008, Senator Boxer introduced S.2555, the Reducing Global Warming Pollutants from Vehicles Act of 2008, a bill that would amend Section 209 of the Clean Air Act by adding a provision stating that California’s December 21, 2005 request to establish motor vehicle GHG emissions standards shall be considered approved. The bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

Fuel Economy

On December 13, 2007, the Senate concurred with the House amendment to the Senate amendment to the text of H.R. 6, with an amendment (SAE 3850) by a vote of 86-8. The legislation was later approved by the House on the 18th and signed into law by the President on the 19th. As approved the legislation will raise vehicle fuel economy standards to 35 mpg by 2020.
