NHTSA has announced that it is delaying the effective date of the December 2007 final rule that reorganized FMVSS 108. The rule was to take effect Dec. 1, 2009, however, with this change the rule will now not take effect until Dec. 1, 2012. In the interim, NHTSA intends to respond to numerous petitions for reconsideration that were filed in response to the December 2007 rule.
