On May 6, 2009, Representative Peters (D-MI) introduced the Vehicle Efficiency Heightening Investment Credit to Lift our Economy Act of 2009 (H.R. 2285). The bill would provide tax credits ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 per vehicle for fleet vehicles purchased through the end of 2010. The credit amount varies depending on vehicle type, fuel efficiency rating and production location. The credit is available on passenger automobiles, non-passenger automobiles and work trucks. The minimum qualifying highway fuel economy value is 24 mpg. The bill was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
