On April 1, 2009, EPA issued a Guidance Letter (CISD-09-10 (LDV/LDT/MDPV) announcing that, beginning the week of May 4, 2009, all certification emission and fuel economy tests of light-duty vehicles, light-duty trucks and medium-duty passenger vehicles at NVFEL which require a US06 test will measure and report US06 test results in accordance with the test procedure requirements of the new 5-cycle fuel economy labeling rule. This capability will support manufacturers of 2009 and 2010 model year vehicles that wish to optionally label vehicles using 5-cycle test procedures, in addition to manufacturers of 2011 and later model year vehicles where 5-cycle fuel economy testing is generally required.
