Fuel Economy

On April 1, 2009, NHTSA published a notice in the Federal Register announcing plans to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement to analyze the potential environmental impacts of fuel economy standards for model year 2012-2016 that NHTSA will be proposing pursuant to the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The notice initiates the process of inviting comments to help identify the environmental issues and reasonable alternatives to be examined in the EIS. The scoping process will culminate in the preparation and issuance of a Draft EIS which will be made available for public comment. Comments in response to the notice will be due at the end of April.
