On December 15, 2008, DOT Secretary Peters advised the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as well as the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, that the roofcrush final rule would be further delayed until April 30, 2009. Per the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient, Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), the final rule was to have been issued by July 1, 2008. On October 1, 2008, DOT advised Congress that the rule would be delayed until December 15, 2008.
