On June 23, 2008, NHTSA will hold a public meeting to discuss the technical and safety policy issues associated with the increasing presence of quieter cars and the risks to blind pedestrians. The meeting will be open to the public, but presentations will be by invitation only. It will take place from 9 am to 3 pm at the Grand Hyatt Washington, Washington, DC.
Discussion topics planned for the meeting include: 1) problem statement, 2) pedestrian safety, 3) sound measurement and mobility, 4) automotive industry perspective, 5) SAE work and status, 6) potential solutions, and 7) noise abatement.
