On May 16, 2008, NHTSA published a notice in the Federal Register at 73 FR 28370 that corrects typographical errors contained in the April 30, 2008 final rule and clarifies that 2009MY and earlier vehicles must comply not with the new requirements but instead with the current Part 565 VIN requirements.
