The U.S. DOT will host a two-day public meeting April 10-11, 2008, to provide its annual progress report on the Integrated Vehicle-Based Safety Systems (IVBSS) program to members of the vehicle safety research community and other interested parties. The IVBSS program is one of the nine first-tier Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) research initiatives being sponsored by DOT’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) - ITS Joint Program Office (JPO). The meeting will be held at the Eagle Crest Conference Center in Ypsilanti, MI.
The IVBSS program is a four-year, two-phase effort being carried out by DOT in partnership with a technical team led by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI). The UMTRI team includes Visteon Corporation, Eaton Corporation, Honda R&D Americas, Cognex Corporation, International Truck and Engine Corporation, Battelle Memorial Institute, and the Michigan DOT.
This fourth public meeting of the IVBSS Program will provide attendees an opportunity to hear from U.S. DOT and IVBSS team members as they discuss the results from the second program year through the end of Phase I. The IVBSS Team also will highlight Phase II activities, including the planning and conduct of the light vehicle and heavy truck field operational tests. The meeting will feature presentations on the light vehicle and heavy truck prototype system development processes, development of tests to verify prototype system performance, and results from human factors experiments conducted to guide driver-vehicle interface development. Representatives from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will discuss the independent measurement system developed and used to collect data during the verification testing process; Volpe National Transportation Systems Center staff will discuss results from test track and on-road verification testing.
Day One of the meeting will feature outdoor static vehicle displays and computer-based demonstrations of analytical tools developed during the first phase. Meeting attendees are encouraged to visit the Exhibit Hall and outdoor displays throughout the day, during specified breaks, the lunch period, and during the evening reception.
Day Two will feature a preview of the IVBSS Program activities planned for the 2008 ITS World Congress & Annual Meeting in New York City, scheduled for November 16-20, 2008.
Due to limitations on meeting room size, advance registration is required. There is a $150 registration fee and the deadline for registration is Friday, March 28, 2008.
